Spiced Gin Time!
The heritage of Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin @opihrgin is firmly rooted in the ancient Spice Route.
Traditionally merchants would travel thousands of miles along the route, trading exotic spices and botanicals from distant lands.
The botanicals are married with fine English spirit to produce an exotic oriental spiced gin.
It is crafted with a selection of exotic hand-picked botanicals including spicy Cubeb berries from Indonesia, Black Pepper from India and Coriander from Morocco. .
It is traditionally distilled, using the same London Dry Gin method since 1761 and the bursts of Citrus are balanced with rich earthy aromas, soft spice and cracked black pepper.
Opihr Gin are hosting a global bartending competition where bartenders from all over the world are making cocktail inspired by a local ingredient. The competition is closing very shortly so get your entries in now! Check out @opihrgin for more details or via website https://competition.opihr.com/
Here is my entry:
I came across some amazing fresh green peppercorns and blood oranges at the local markets and this inspired to me create a ‘Opihr Fizz’.
30mls Freshly squeezed Blood Orange Juice
15mls of homemade Green Peppercorn, Basil and Brown Sugar Syrup*
20mls Aquafaba (room temperature)
Place all ingredients in cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously for around one minute. Double strain into your favourite cocktail glass. Allow the foam to settle before garnishing with a fresh slice of blood orange.
*The Syrup was created with 8 basil leaves, 8 green fresh peppercorns, 1 cup water and ¼ cup of brown sugar. Place all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to the boil. Reduce to a simmer until liquid has halved.
