The Jack Rose

The ‘Jack Rose’ is a classic cocktail that usually contains applejack, grenadine, and lemon juice. It was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s, and it was featured Ernest Hemingway’s 1926 classic, The Sun Also Rises. This is my twist on this classic cocktail.

Recipe:
60mls @patron Blanco Tequila
30mls freshly squeezed lemon juice
15mls grenadine
15mls homemade Apple Syrup*
Good dash of @angosturahouse bitters

Result: This cocktail really needed the Bitters as it quite sweet.

This cocktail was created for the event#cocktailredux created by Steve @boxesandbooze

The event is open to all and runs from 23rd-25th June and it is all about recreating and ‘modernising’ the classic cocktails.

*Apple Syrup:
1 large Granny Smith Apple cut into slices
300mls water
1/4 cup brown sugar.

Place all ingredients into a saucepan. Bring to the boil. Reduce to a simmer until the liquid reduces to around half. Strain the liquid into a container and refrigerate overnight.
